Gee and I thought I could be an Anon...

I guess the wife, mother, sister, daughter thing gave it away.

I was sure the first comment would be negative and it was. What joy!

Let me skip to the comment on how stories are chosen. It is my belief the public thinks the media sit around and deliberate on ways to slant the news one way or the other. This may be true in some cases, but there are exceptions. And many of us simply don't have the time to think of ways to bend the truth.

Many of us in the central Louisiana media collect information from our personal sources, phone calls, faxes, email and visits. The information is usually compiled in some way in a computer with a schedule and then the news manager balances the resources he has with the list of story ideas and scheduled events.

As the day unfolds are there are changes made, depending on what comes in to the newsroom. A prime example is what occurred in Ball with suspected illegal immigrants arrested. The story came in at about 4:00pm and the day kicked up again in the news cycle.

IMHO (in my humble opinion) we all do a fairly good job with the resources we have. And now is a good time in the media for central Louisiana with the explosion (too big a description?) of the internet.

For those of us in the local media willing to listen, we will have more tools than ever to find the kind of news you will be interested in…are you willing to participate?

Explain why you failed to look at photographs and signed statements, repeatedly offered to you, concerning Roy Hebron using public employees, equipment and inmate labor to build his new home? If you were told its all been investigated, what do you base that upon?

By the way, thanks for the forum and keep it up. I see one of the biggest challenges is to arouse our neighbors to care enough to vote and pay attention to their surroundings. We are sunk as a nation if the current ambivalence trend continues.

Hi Spanky..I will try to keep up this forum but may have difficulty with my main job being the balance of the "traditional" news gathering needing to take place.

On the issue of Mayor Hebron, I am not aware of being offered any special information about his activites. I do feel these type of stories get very personal and the proper investigation unit is with state officials. I'm sure my answer will get a negative response but I'm not sure that many people care unless Mr. Hebron is arrested, which of course all of us would report without bias.

I guess I was being negative. But I found it disturbing that a member of an industry that prides itself on shining the light on topics attempted to keep herself anonymous.

You should always have the courage of your convictions -- right or wrong. And we'll let you know when you're right and when you're wrong.

Thanks for the encouragement. You are correct I should have the courage to identify myself. I wanted the blog to not be about ME since in the past the fact that I was on the air has made me a lighting rod. I will try to be more transparent.
Let's keep talking...

I remember when I tried to get Tom Konvicka on the phone to talk about unusual weather-related phenomena. Wouldn't even return my call.

Tom's email is tkonvicka@kalb.com or you can speak with him via his blog at kalb.com.

Why can't you get mark Hamblin to say DOUBLE HEADER instead of DOUBLE HITTER?...It makes him look very uneducated for a sports person.

I will pass that along.

Sorry I outed you.

Let's move on to when the media honeymoon is going to end with Mayor Roy?

A man who, no matter what he says, has a personal and now political interest in the city-Cleco case is leading the city's legal team in mediations. What are the other guys who are getting 40 or 50 percent doing?

And I think he will rue the day he ticked off Bridgett Brown. Can't wait til those depositions start and she gets at the truth of his relationships -- financial and personal.
